Joseph Reuleaux,("Kunstmeister"*) the son of Joseph and Anne Reuleau, was born on 4 May 1737, married Sophie Helene Baumann on 7 January 1766 in Eschweiler, and died in 1818 in Eschweiler; she died on 25 December 1809 in Liittich (Liège). They were our great-great-great-grandparents. It was this generation that changed the spelling of their surname from Reuleau to Reuleaux; the reason is not recorded, but a correspondent, Suzanne Reuleaux, in Liège suggests that at that time names tended to be flexible. She also believes that the name originated from the small village of Reuleau, a few miles SE of Namur.
The children of Joseph and Sophie were:
Franz Xaver Joseph (1768-cl810) who married Anna Katharina Graaf(-1836/7); our great-great-grandparents;
Jean Pierre (1772-);
Hermann Joseph (1779-1860), married Catharina Servais;
Maria Auguste Petronella.
