In his letter to Ludwig Andreas of 23 April 1858 he refers to "Ticheln bei Geilenkirchen"; Geilenkirchen is a town in Germany close to the Dutch border about 25 km N of Aachen, and not far in fact from Eschweiler. Susanna Seifloh's letter of 13 April 1858 to her brother Ludwig Andreas refers to the visit of a "Herr Schopen, Gutsbesitzer [landowner] aus Frelenberg". However what "Frelenberg" and "Ticheln" signify remains unclear, but their inclusion by Joseph suggests that he thought them important. Parents: Leonhard SCHOPEN and Agnes TOLLHAUSEN .

The family archives contain a copy of the 1824 birth certificate of their son Ludwig Andreas, in which Ludwig is decribed as "Unteroffizer in zwanzig fünften Infantrie Regiment" [ Sergant in the twenty fifth infantry regiment] stationed in Coblenz, Germany; but in 1854 Ludwig Andreas is decribed in his marriage certificate (1854 - we have a copy made in 1868) as the eldest son of "Herrn Ludwig Seifloh, Kasern-Inspektor" in Coblenz [literally translated as barrack inspector], suggesting that Ludwig had changed his occipation, possibly to civilian status.

Ludwig Andreas, an employee in Gräflich von Einsiedelsch Eisenwerk, Lauchhammer is described in various documents as "Bau-Imspektor", a "Maschinenbau-Inspector" and a "Maschinen Meister", which seems to suggest that he was some sort of mechanical engineering supervisor with increasing responsibilities. he was apparently sufficiently senior to be required to travel abroad and the archives contains two official travel permits. dated 1862 and 1870 Parents: Ludwig SEIFLOH and Walburga BERGRATH.
