FAMILIECHRONIK
(FAMILY CHRONICLE)

Following the abandonment by Max and Emma Seiflow of the Family Bible as a record of their children, they used this "Family Chronicle".

The Chronicle is a simple affair. It is in German, and much less sophisticated than what one would have expected Max and Emma to have bought for themselves; perhaps it was given to them by the Lutheran Church where they were married.

The entries start with Max and Emma themselves, then their parents, then each of their children. As far as the entry for Romy, the hand-writing is Max's, except for the weights (recorded weekly for four or five months), which could have been put in by a nurse. The entry for Iris is I think in Emma's hand; the first part of my entry is by Max, but my godparents were entered by Emma; the only weight recorded for me is the 7 Ib 8 oz at birth.

Among the family papers we have also the receipt for the cost of Max Julius Reinhard's grave (£3.10.0), and a certificate of perpetual ownership, subject to the payment of whatever fees and regulations might be imposed. He was buried on 12th November 1901 in Hampstead Cemetery, in unconsecrated ground (because he was not baptised?), but there is no evidence of any long-term involvement with the grave.

We also have the baptismal certificates for Hugh (Hans Ewald) Seiflow, 16th March 1905, and Margaret Seiflow, 30th May 1907, issued respectively by the Hamburg Lutheran Church in Dalston, and the German Evangelical Christchurch in Montpelier Place, Brompton Road.
